Dave’s Music Discovery #2
“Boundaries” — Jamila Woods
A great song about keeping your partner/crush at a distance in an effort to avoid being disappointed.
“Sunday” — Iggy Pop
As dry and as orange as New Mexico, an existential longing that ends with a sweeping orchestra; feeling like you’re sailing towards the end of the world.
“Pass the Courvoisier” — DJ Nu-Mark, Full Crate
In love with this instrumental cover even though it sounds a bit too broadway-ish. I’m always a sucker for horns though, and the flute doing Pharrell’s part is a nice touch.
“Soundtrack” — JAEL, Rae Khalil
A groovy little tune about being everything to her.
“Law & Order pt.2” — Luh Tyler, 50jittsteppa
I love Tyler’s flow on this, shit really makes me laugh in the best way.
“Pray” — Duckwrth
looooooove this shit man. juke juke juke.
“LIL BIT” — Kaelin Ellis
I get really great black mad scientist vibes.
“ZaZa and Some Runtz (Smoke Break)” — Terry Presume
This could’ve been in Atlanta. Sounds like glue on a pogo stick.
“U DON’T HAVE TO ROB ME” — DOMi & JD BECK
A really cute song about resigning to the ever-present danger of living in a large city.
“Running Out Of Time” — Paramore
Time doesn't exist but it still affects us and that's probably the worst part of being alive.
“Halloween Store” — Andy Shauf
Man, I really love this. Sounds like Paul Simon and Kermit the Frog’s love child (complimentary). It’s like hearing a memory.
“Blackout” — Nasty C
Put that shit on music
“Park Your Car on My Face” — Louis Cole
This is just great. Has elements of Stevie Wonder and Jamiroquai; energetic, loving, and bombastic.
“Sinner” — Kelly Moonstone
A fun and sexy track about being nasty in bed. ‘I’ve never been this viscous’ is insane lmao.
“RATATA” — Skrillex, Missy Elliott, Mr. Oizo
I love that we got a new verse from Missy to along with her Work It sample in the hook.
“She’s A 10 But….(Remix)” — ARTAN, Yung Gravy
Gravy has one of my favorite tones in current rap and I'm sorry; this shit is a swish.
“DROP!!” — Joey Valance & Brae
The Beastie Boys comparisons are obvious but I genuinely love that these guys are keeping the 90s sound consistent while keeping it grungy. Put this in the new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.
“The Only One” — Benny Sings
An almost surfer-pop love song about dissociation.
